Jameela Jamil just spoke candidly about having an abortion

This month has seen abortion legislation change in certain US states, with it criminalised in Georgia this week, a huge step back for women across the world.

Today, Alabama followed suit, passing a bill to outlaw the procedure in almost all cases, including rape and incest.

High profile women have been leading the global protests to the ban, speaking candidly about their own abortion experiences, with actress and activist Alyssa Milano even calling for a sex strike to protest the new bill.

The Good Place actress Jameela Jamil was at the forefront, taking to her Twitter to call Georgia’s law ‘so upsetting, inhumane, and blatantly demonstrative of a hatred of women, a disregard for our rights, bodies, mental health, and essentially a punishment for rape victims, forcing to carry the baby of their rapist’.

Opening up about her own experience with abortion, Jameela posted: ‘I had an abortion when I was young, and it was the best decision I have ever made. Both for me, and for the baby I didn’t want, and wasn’t ready for, emotionally, psychologically and financially. So many children will end up in foster homes. So many lives ruined. So very cruel.’

‘Hope the people of Alabama who want the abortion ban are up for donating their money and space to the MEGA influx of kids in need of care, coming your way,’ she added today ahead of the announcement of Alabama’s ban. ‘Also the poverty in Alabama will SHOOT up. Extra Welfare will be needed. It’s going to be chaos.’

This is terrifying.
